Game Structure

  • Follows the general game structure outlined for Elementary levels (Section: Game Structure), including quarter lengths and 4th quarter running clock rules.

Special Rules for 6th-8th Grade

  • Blitzing Rule (8th Grade Only): Defensive players are allowed to blitz only in the 4th quarter to simulate high-pressure game situations relevant to high school play.

  • No Cut Blocks or Crack-Back Blocks: These techniques remain prohibited at all times to ensure player safety.

Extra Point Variations:

6th-7th Grade: Extra points are scored by running, passing, or kicking from the 15-yard line.
8th Grade: Extra points are scored by running, passing, or kicking from the 20-yard line.
Increased Contact: Contact levels are controlled but increased compared to elementary levels to prepare athletes for high school-level play safely.

Coaching Involvement

Coaches operate from the booth or the sideline (typically not on the field during play) for advanced instruction and player evaluation.

Focus includes situational drills (e.g., red zone offense/defense, two-minute drill) to assess player decision-making and execution under pressure.
